In a huge accolade for both the club and Cambourne as a whole, Cambourne Town FC was awarded the National Grassroots Club of the Year on 6th August!
The exciting announcement came during Half Time of the FA Community Shield game at Wembley Stadium between Arsenal and Manchester City with club representatives attending to receive the prestigious award.
Cambourne Town FC was chosen to win this prestigious award due to the breadth of football opportunities it offers its local community. Our award by England Football considered that we as a club;
Club Chair Cllr Greg Thompson summed up the proud feeling at the club: "The winning of this national award – the highest level in England Grassroots Football – in only our second season, is an amazing achievement and is a testament to the dedication, hard work and time invested by all our volunteer committee members, managers and coaches, as well as the Town Council and the players and the parents who have supported us all the way. They should all take great pride in this recognition of their efforts as it reflects the very spirit of the club."
Outgoing Club Secretary Richard Brown commented; "This amazing award is very gratefully received – it shows what can be accomplished when people come together and put co-operation and inclusivity at the very heart of everything they do."
The club now looks forward to exciting times ahead, as this award will aid their fundraising and development plans such as improving pitch and changing room facilities, new signage and implementing a range of football development initiatives in partnership with the Town Council.
OUR ACHIEVEMENTS:
As a local club Cambourne Town FC has 42 teams affiliated to league competitions starting at U7 to Adults for both male and female teams providing football to over 750 players with 130 coaches supporting those players.
We offer football training and matches from Foundation stages to adult football incorporating Wildcats (for Girls), Soccer School, Squad Girls (one of the first in the country/county), Walking Football and Inclusive/Parability sessions.
The club created a new development centre so we could better handle our waiting list and still give opportunities to kids who want to play to expand the provision for U7 through to U10 age groups.
The Dugout (our clubhouse) provides events for both members and non-members ranging
from bingo to Easter Egg Hunts, to race nights and supports our Walking Football
group with a space to eat and drink after their sessions.
The club has supported and helped fund the purchase of new equipment such as roll-
on goals which benefits the whole community.
Cambourne Town FC is an official partner with HerGameToo and have a thriving Womens and Girls football environment which is testament to the groundwork laid beforehand and which continues to develop.
The club hosted Cambs FA's first ever Walking Football festival in 2023 and supports FA initiatives such as the FA England Para Football Talent Days
We provide great experiences for our players with 2 professional photo shoots
organised over the last year and our first ever sticker book album for the younger
age groups to collect - like a Panini experience for Cambourne Town.
We have a committed and professional Committee and amazing team of volunteers who all play their part in supporting the club to achieve more every year.
This amazing award demonstrates what we have achieved as a football family! Hip hip Hooray!
